Mystery trip to Sacramento by rail. Took BART Orange Line from Milpitas to Richmond, where I
boarded Amtrak train 6, the California Zephyr, to Sacramento Valley Station.
Rode Sacramento Regional Transit 51 to dine at Fixins Soul Kitchen at Broadway and 3rd Ave. in the
Oak Park Neighborhood. The meal was gumbo and potato salad. Very delicious and authentic.
Then I continued on the 68 to 65th Ave. Expressway, taking an 81 bus to the 65th St. light rail station.
Boarded a train and alighted at 16th St. Station, got a few photos, and continued to the K and 8th Sts.
station. An oddity I saw while waiting for the 81 was a StaRT paratransit van, number 07-16, that was not
repainted in StanRTA "S" blue livery. I believe the van was probably sold off, for it would be very
unlikely to offer paratransit service as far north as Sacramento, and the bus has a commercial or truck
license plate.
Did a session of buses on J St. at the 8th and then 7th Sts. intersections. I then rode a 38 bus
to 15th St. Walked to State Capitol Park World Peace Rose Garden at 15th and Capitol Ave. for a series
of commuter buses of various agencies. Also did some commuters on N St. either side of 15th.
Got a 30 bus back to the Amtrak station to wait for Capitol Corridor train 551 to Richmond
and BART to the car at Milpitas.
Besides Amtrak trains (including the Coast Starlight at Richmond) and SacRT buses (including an Orion VII OG, Orion VII NG, and Oak Grove New Flyers),
I shot buses of the following agencies:
Placer Commuter Express (MCIs), El Dorado Transit (MCIs), Roseville Transit (Gillig Phantoms
still in service, LFs, and BRTs), Yuba-Sutter Transit (MCIs), Yolobus (an Orion VII OG, Orion VII NG, MCIs, and Gillig LFs),
San Joaquin RTD (MCI 4500 CRT LE and Gillig LF), and Amador Transit (cutaway).
The last one is important because
effective July 1, 2005, the agency will end route 1 from Sutter Hill Transit Center
to Capitol Mall, with no replacement service planned. On May 15th I took pictures of the line as the bus
departed Sutter Hill TC. That was the inspiration to make the day's trip to Sacramento, to snap the bus
at the other end. The other goals met were to do Orion VII OGs of both RT and Yolobus, and Gillig Phantoms
from Roseville.
The other food photo depicts my meal purchase in the cafe car of the Capitol Corridor train (a heated Digiorno
pepperoni pizza, chips, and soda).
Nikon D5600 and Samsung Galaxy A54 5G cameras yielded 369 photos.
